Come spesso accade, in una finale, in una gara secca, sono gli episodi a fare la differenza. La Juve batte il Napoli 2-0 e si aggiudica la Supercoppa italiana, primo trofeo dell'era Pirlo. I bianconeri hanno vinto con merito, soprattutto per il secondo tempo messo in campo durante il quale la Juve ha creduto di più alla vittoria creando diverse palle gol. A sbloccare il match ci ha pensato il solito Cristiano Ronaldo (20° gol stagionale e 760° in carriera, superato Bican) e nel finale Morata, in contropiede, ha arrotondato il punteggio. Nel mezzo la clamorosa chance, per Insigne, di cogliere il pareggio: il capitano del Napoli ha sprecato un calcio di rigore mandando il pallone fuori. La Juve risponde, dunque, così alle critiche piombatele addosso dopo la sconfitta nel derby d'Italia contro l'Inter ed è pronta a riprendere il cammino anche in campionato. Per il Napoli una battuta d'arresto dopo un ultimo recentissimo periodo positivo.

Formazioni della vigilia praticamente confermate dagli allenatori ad eccezione del recupero in extremis, per la Juve, di Cuadrado che, negativo al Covid, è stato schierato da Pirlo dal 1'. Napoli con Petagna dall'inizio e il tridente formato da Insigne, Zielinski e Lozano. Partita estremamente tattica, aggressiva e bloccata per tutto il primo tempo. Le occasioni si contano sulle dita di una mano. Per la Juve un paio di conclusioni dalla distanza di Cristiano Ronaldo e poco altro, per il Napoli un bel colpo di testa in tuffo di Lozano parato con un gran riflesso da Szczesny.

Nella ripresa gara decisamente più viva, complice qualche spazio in più dovuto alla stanchezza. E' la Juve che profonde il massimo sforzo cercando con insistenza il gol del vantaggio. Ospina salva sulla linea una deviazione da pochi passi di Bernardeschi, Ronaldo scalda prima le mani al portiere del Napoli e poi sfrutta un calcio d'angolo per batterlo e portare la Juve in vantaggio. La squadra di Gattuso prova a reagire e si riversa in attacco, l'allenatore inserisce Mertens, Llorente e Politano. Proprio il belga si guadagna un calcio di rigore dopo essere stato atterrato da McKennie. Dal dischetto Insigne spiazza Szczesny ma manda clamorosamente a lato. Il Napoli continua ad attaccare a pieno organico, ancora Szczesny sventa una deviazione pericolosa verso la propria porta e poi, nel recupero, in contropiede Morata chiude definitivamente i conti consegnando alla Juve la Supercoppa italiana.
